![]() ![]() Red flagged stacks also spawn during invasion events, intended to be a "swarm" invasion to put pressure on everyone. Early game they can push an AI away from an area, a human player as well if you don't have a decent army to stop them. Stronger wandering stacks can effectively create a "wall" between areas, destroying any low-tier stacks that wander into a certain part of the map. Red - an active challenge, mostly in early/mid-game. Slows down reckless early game expansion, especially on larger maps where enemy AI is far away. Grey - not really a challenge but you can't just leave cities or builder units undefended. ![]() (Note: this is different than the scoundrels summoned by the Rogue spell that will attack a settlement no matter what). Maybe if you only have a couple of weak T1 units they may attack as well. The second it becomes undefended, however, they will strike immediately. Those 3 scoundrel stacks at the beginning of the game, for example, just wander near settlements but won't attack if it can put up a fight. I *think* grey flagged units "don't want to die" and will not attack if they don't think they can win. They don't care if they can win or not, they will attack no matter what. I *think* red flagged units will always attack the nearest Player/AI unit it can, assuming it wanders close enough to get spotted. I don't understand the grey vs red flags, though I know what you are talking about. (an exception may be abandoned quest spawned stacks, I don't think they do anything but walk around). As was mentioned earlier, anything that wanders is dangerous.
